Wiffleball Player Goes “Pro”

Joe Yerdon with the Stanley Cup He was one of our original six league members. So it’s fitting that Joe Yerdon is now working as the lead writer/editor for Pro Hockey Talk on NBCSports.com.

Before he was getting paid to write about hockey, Joe was the wiffleball pitcher that I feared the most. Not because he threw harder than anyone or had the most strikeouts. Joe would always go through a stretch of games where he would have control issues and become the Major League Wiffleball version of Mitch Williams or Rick Vaughn.

Over the years, Joe has dislocated his shoulder several times, and his wiffleball career seems to be over. Still, Joe will continue to get hits, but they won’t be with a wiffleball bat, and they won’t help his career .308 batting average. Instead, those hits will be from visitors reading his hockey articles.

Joe has been a hockey blogger for a few years on sites such as Gross Misconduct Hockey and FOX Sports 980.

I’m still convinced that wiffleball is cooler than ice hockey, but getting paid to do what you love is even better. Congratulations, Joe!
