Great site guys. It’s a shame you don’t play anymore
[Reply]
Dudes..you didn’t even play with a real wiffle ball. Amatuers.
[Reply]
We tried the ‘real’ Wiffle Ball, but we all preferred a more realistic plastic baseball, not a toy.

Thanks for stopping by. Good luck with your wiffleball league in Iowa!

a wiffleball is not JUST a toy, it is but not with the negative connotation you use it as, it can be used but you can also throw huge curves with it, equally or even more than with the “swiss cheese” balls
fast pitch wiffleball is definitely not easy
id say your guys form of wiffleball and normal fast pitch is equally “toyish” but thats just me
look up golden stick wiffleball, id like to see a 10 year old do that

dude wbl raleigh has a great league and website going on. Those kids are sick

Hey Fellow Wiffler,
When you put it like that, you’re right. All wiffleballs are toys, really. And one could argue so are baseballs.
I’ve seen the GSWL site before. Those guys are good. Their league reminds me of the good ol’ MLW days.
We chose the ‘swiss cheese’ ball because it fit our field the best. We worked around that. When deciding, keeping the baseball experience as ‘real’ as possible was also a major factor for us. However, under different circumstances — like if we played indoors with no wind on a slightly smaller field — I may have chosen the official Wiffle Ball.
Nowadays, since we’re a few years older, keeping the game as real as possible probably wouldn’t be as much of a concern. Wiffleball is all about getting together and having fun.
I appreciate your well thought out comment.

Hey guys,
I’m a wiffle ball enthusiast as well as a writer. I dedicated my last piece to the great game of wiffle ball. I thought some of you might enjoy it. Take care!

shaun breen is right….the easton, cosom ball is much more similar to baseball than a wiffle ball…I played wiffle before you guys were born…my buddy could throw the wiffle with so much movement you wouldnt be able to hit it permalink…plus it deforms when it is hit…we hit..ran the bases…threw runner outs by hitting them…everthing was a scaled down version of baseball…which to me is the whole point….i liked the softball sized version of the cosom ball too.

I enjoyed your site. I have the answer to everyone getting too old and moving away – Nephews ! My dozen nephews and I held multiple tourneys this year, built a Fenway replica and 2 other fields with 10′ high fences. We have a dozen or so teams signed up for a MLB like league next year and are hoping to get to at least 18.
Nephews man, Nephews. They can drag you off the couch and into the backyard or street again.
We kind of settled on the gold stick rules, even though we have played wide open (any bat allowed) and hard plastic balls (with holes) among our family for years. Most everyone around here has standardized on the ‘official’ wiffleball thing.
Thanks for your site – here’s hoping you have Nephews upcoming to drag you back out into the street !
Take care, Jerry

Jerry, thanks for the tip. You must have a big family. My sister is still in college, so I’m willing to wait a few years (or longer) for a nephew.
We’ve joked around about forming Minor League Wiffleball to players who had their own children over the past few years. About half are girls though, so I’m not sure how well that would work out.
Many of the MLW originals actually got together and played on Columbus Day weekend, and we had a great time. I’ll post an article about it in the near future. We’re already talking about playing a few times next year too.
I checked out your site and saw the photos. The stadium lights look great!
Thanks for stopping by!

Did you guys know that the wiffle ball is on its way to end up in the Olympics…
Not through base wiffles – but net whiffles.
FloorBall Hockey that uses something that in the beginning was an whiffle ball is going olympic in 2020…

Looks like fun. That ball looks similar to the one we use. It’s not an official Wiffle Ball, it has the holes cut uniformly throughout. See it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floorball#Ball
I’d love to try one of these in a wiffleball game. Anyone know where they sell Floorballs?
