The Heckler

The Heckler and his grandson Do you have a heckler? You know, a fan that picks on one or more of the players? At MLW, we don’t have a heckler, we have someone we call ‘The Heckler’.

‘The Heckler’, who officially goes by the name Dennis, likes to watch us play and pick on the same few players at the same time. He’s not mean about it though. He’s actually pretty funny. Many of us have known ‘The Heckler’ since we were small children, when he would regularly school us in street basketball.

Nowadays, after a strikeout he might say, ‘Hey, I thought you could hit!’ Or if a pitcher thows a ball that doesn’t get land in the strike pouch, he might say, ‘You missed!’ It’s entirely random, so it’s often unexpected and always gets a chuckle, even from the heckled player. We always enjoy when ‘The Heckler’ comes out of his ‘skybox’ with his grandson and joins us at field level.

Heckler’s often have a bad reputation, but our heckler is a positive part of our game. If only all of the neighbors were that supportive…
