The Designated Hitter Rule

[Designated Hitter] So you’re all set to play wiffleball and 9 guys show up to play. You pick teams, it’s 4-on-4, and the worst player has to sit and watch, right? Wrong! Everyone can play. Just use one player as the designated hitter (DH).

Every now and then, you’ll have an odd-number of players at a game. The best solution is to use one player as a DH. This player will be in the lineup for both teams, and doesn’t have to pitch or play in the field. The DH needs to try equally hard for both teams though, or else he/she may never be allowed to be a DH again. And why wouldn’t they? It’s the best chance they’ll have all season to boost their own stats and ranking.

One suggestion is that the DH should have enough games played, that they can afford to miss out on earning any pitching stats for a game.

You’ll also want to rotate the DH responsibility from player to player. Nobody should repeat as a DH unless everyone else has had a crack at it before.
