Joe Mauer – 2009 AL MVP

Joe Mauer - 2009 AL MVP

American Leaguers — Want to hold a wiffleball for our site? So far, two players that have went on to win the American League Most Valuable Player Award.

Back in 2006, Justin Morneau held and autographed a wiffleball for us at spring training, and finished the year by winning the AL MVP Award. Earlier today, Joe Mauer, who also held and autographed a wiffleball for us was named the 2009 AL MVP.

Mauer was a near-unanimous choice, earning 27-of-28 first place votes (Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera got the other), and is only the second catcher in 33 years to win the AL MVP Award.

Silver and Gold

Congratulations once again to Joe Mauer and Torii Hunter. Both won Rawlings American League Gold Glove Awards earlier in the week, and later in the week, they each picked up an American League Silver Slugger Award.

As a tribute for this year, our Twitter background has been updated to include Mauer and Hunter. It’s not going to win any design awards, but it’s supposed to be the thought that counts.

Major League Wiffleball would like to congratulate Torii Hunter and Joe Mauer for winning 2009 American League Rawlings Gold Glove Awards.

Hunter won his ninth consecutive Gold Glove Award, while Mauer won his second in a row.

It would be interesting to see how these players would adapt to wiffleball since MLW players don’t wear gloves…

AL Central Showdown Tigers/Twins

AL Central Showdown Tigers/Twins

Most of the baseball playoff races were decided weeks ago. It looked like the American League Central was among those, but the Twins are keeping it interesting, and the race with the Tigers is really heating up.

Of course, we’re all rooting for the Twins here. After all, TC, the Minnesota Twins mascot, held a wiffleball in his mouth for us!
