On Wednesday, Alex Rodriguez, or “Al”, as Joe Girardi referred to him, skipped Yankees team photo day and went on to hit his 600th career home run off Shaun Marcum, the only active Major League Baseball player that spells his first name the same way that I do.
While that sounds impressive, if you look at the numbers a little more closely, you’ll see that Major League Wiffleball Home Run King Mike Breen is a much better home run hitter than A-Rod.
A-Rod homers on average every 14.5 at bats, which is disappointing in comparison to Mike Breen who averaged one home run every 5.28 at bats throughout his career.
Major League Wiffleball all-time home run king Mike Breen is celebrating his 32nd birthday today. Mike belted 58 home runs over three seasons, and won the single season home run title in each of those three seasons (Season 1: 12; Season 2: 18; Season 3: 28). Quentin Jensen, and Mike’s cousin Shaun Breen both trail Mike, and share second place with 41 home runs each during their careers.
In addition to being the wiffleball home run king, Mike is also the MLW leader in runs batted in (140) and total bases (310).
Wiffleball players are often thought of as single, balding, middle-aged men with beer bellies. While I’m sure there are some wiffleball players that match that description, there are also just as many wiffleball players that are in great athletic shape.
So which one is more beneficial for wiffleball?
