Justin Morneau named AL MVP

Date December 12, 2006

[Justin Morneau] Congratulations to Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins for winning the 2006 American League Most Valuable Player Award. Back in February, the Twins first baseman was kind enough to pose for a photo holding a wiffleball after taking batting practice at spring training in Fort Myers, Florida.

In one of the closest MVP races in history, Morneau edged out Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees to win the award. Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer finished sixth, and Cy Young award winner Johan Santana finished seventh in voting. Twins closer Joe Nathan received six points.

Coincidentally, all of these Twins players have posed with wiffleballs for photos for this web site. Perhaps this will encourage more players to join them?
