| Game 5 |
(Eric, Shaun, and Matt)
vs. (Quentin, Mike, Marc, and Joe)
If I could use only one word to describe
this game, I'd say it was "perfect." However, that would be
a pretty boring summary, so I'll use a few more words.
Quentin Jensen started his second game of the series, this time trying
to wrap it up and send his team home with a 4-1 series win.
In Game One he threw a complete game, one-hit, shutout. He promised to
bring nothing but gas to this game, and he wasn't kidding. When the game
was over, Jensen threw an unbelievable 14 K, PERFECT GAME to win the first
ever Wiffleball World Series.
Jensen was only one-strike away from a 15 K performance. Shaun Breen lined
out on an 0-2 pitch in the second inning to outfielder, Marc Ceccucci.
Marc was wisely positioned in right field since he knew that if anyone
did get around on Quentin, they certainly wouldn't be able to pull the
ball. Jensen then retired the next 9 batters in order via strikeout.
Shaun Breen pitched worse than average, but even his best stuff wouldn't
have helped him win this game. He scattered 7 hits over 4 innings, allowing
the game's only two runs.
There wasn't a radar gun available, but it was estimated that Jensen was
throwing at nearly 90 MPH. His pitches certainly came in at well over
80 MPH. And it's worth mentioning that there were no walks in this game.
After the game both captains chose Quentin Jensen as the 2000 Wiffleball World Series
Most Valuable Player.
Final Score: 2-0
