| Game 3 |
(Eric, Matt, and Shaun)
vs. (Mike, Quentin, Joe, and Marc)
The players certainly made up for the
lack of offense in Game Two as both teams combined for 13 hits,
7 of them homers in Game Three. One of those homers was a fifth inning
walk-off homer for Mike Breen, which put his team up 2 games to 1 in the
series. The homer was Mike's third of the game off opposing pitcher Matt
Ceccucci.
Matt homered twice in this game himself. Both homers
came against brother, and winning pitcher Marc Ceccucci.
Marc didn't have a stellar outing, but he pitched well
enough to give his team the pivotal Game Three victory.
Mike's Team led 5-2 going into the top of the fifth, but blew a three
run lead. Marc Ceccucci hit leadoff batter Eric Coons in the head with
the first pitch, automatically giving him first base. Matt Ceccucci stepped
up next and belted a 3-2 pitch for a homer, which made the score 5-4,
and there were still no outs. Shaun Breen came up next and took a 1-0
pitch deep to left-center field to tie the game at five. Following a brief
conference on the mound and his usual temper tantrum after giving up a
home run, Marc Ceccucci settled down to retire the next three batters
in order.
However, as mentioned above, Mike Breen proved to be the hero of this
game for hitting a walk-off homer in the bottom of the fifth to win the
game 6-5. This game concluded the day's tripleheader, with the remaining
games to be played the following week to determine the league's champions.
