2000 World Series

Game Summary
August 13, 2000
(World Series Game 1)

Game 1

(Marc, Mike, Quentin, and Joe)
vs. (Eric, Matt, and Shaun)

Game One turned out the way most of the participants thought it would -- with Team Two winning big. Instead of Shaun Breen taking the first spot in the pitching rotation, he chose to go with fellow five-game winner Eric Coons. Breen knew that opposing pitcher Quentin Jensen would throw at least as well as he did during the regular season, and he realized that one mistake could not only cost his team the game, but throw off more favorable pitching matchups later in the series. Breen thought that he would have a better chance dueling it out against his cousin, Mike Breen in Game Two.

The managerial move wasn't a brilliant one, as Eric Coons fell behind 4-0 in the third inning on two 2-run homers by Quentin Jensen. Coons then fell even further behind as he allowed a 3-run homer to Mike Breen in the bottom of the 4th.

Jensen, on the other hand pitched a gem. He pitched his limit of five innings, meaning he would be ineligable to take the mound in Game Two. In those five innings, he allowed only one hit, a single to opposing pitcher Eric Coons in the bottom of the third. He also walked Shaun Breen on a 3-2, 2 out pitch in the bottom of the second. Those were the only two baserunners of the game for Team One.

Matt Ceccucci came on in relief in the top of the fifth and retired the side in order. This included a 3 pitch strikeout to Mike Breen. However the lack of offense on the part of Team One cost them the game and Team Two took the easy win and a 1-0 series lead.
