19 for Mike Breen

Mike Breen with his 19th home run ball. He's done it again. For the second straight year, Mike Breen has broken the single season home run record. After going homerless in game one of Sunday's doubleheader, Breen did the unthinkable by lining a Quentin Jensen fastball inches over the wall in left field to set the new home run record.

It was much like Mark McGwire's 62nd home run which barely cleared the left field fence in Busch Stadium back in September 1998. The difference is that Quentin Jensen is no Steve Trachsel; Jensen is our version of Curt Schilling.

Prior to Sunday, Jensen had only allowed one regular season home run in his three-year career (Shaun Breen -- June 2001). On Sunday, he allowed a first-pitch grand slam to Brian Glasser in a relief appearance role and then the record-breaking 19th home run in the second game. Jensen also surrendered a 2-run homer to Matt Dahlin in Game 1 of the 2001 Wiffleball World Series. Mike will be facing Quentin again this Sunday as he looks to become the first player to hit 50 home runs in a career (he currently has 49).

Jensen may get his revenge though. He's right on Mike's tail with 14 homers of his own. With 6 games left to play, it's anyone's guess how this race will turn out.
