Quentin Jensen retires....then returns
Quentin Jensen, arguably the greatest player in MLW history,
recently confirmed the rumors that he had indeed retired from wiffleball. The announcement was made on the
MLW Message board.
The decision wasn't a shocking one. He had missed three consecutive games and hinted to other players that
he had played in his last game.
Jensen has been battling arm trouble throughout his career. For those who haven't known
Jensen very long, they'd never believe he's had a series of arm injuries since age 12; he
throws harder than anyone else in the league. Jensen is a true competitor, he never gives
less than 100%, even if it means pitching through pain, which is why he decided to leave the
game altogether -- because he could no longer pitch at the level everyone was accustomed to.
Jensen also said that he no longer found the game fun, a feeling that he shares with several
other players. And that a busy work schedule prevented him from attending as often as he'd
like.
However, Jensen had a change of heart just two weeks after the announcement and decided to
play in one last game and end his career on the same day
Eric Coons would end his season.
Apparently, Jensen's interest was energized that day because he returned to action on the
following game day and bashed four home runs in one game. Just two weeks before, Jensen's
lifelong friend and rival,
Shaun Breen, hit four home runs in the game immediately following
Jensen's retirement announcement.
Jensen has agreed to continue playing throughout the 2002 season. He said his main reason
for returning was to help save this dying game.
What he will do beyond 2002 is unknown. He will be getting married on June 28, 2003, so this
may be the last time the players get to see Quentin Jensen on the Sac....or off.
