'Ironman' Eric Coons Returns
It was thought that
Eric Coons would miss the entire 2002 season after he learned he
completely tore the ACL in his right knee, an injury that occurred while trying to avoid a
tag on May 26th in spring training. However, on June 16th, the Ironman surprised everyone
when he returned to action, playing through pain.
As expected, Eric was a bit shaky on the mound, but he surprised everyone by doing so well at
the plate. It was thought that running would be a problem for Coons, but luckily for him, he
was able to trot around the bases three times as he went 5-for-7 with 3 homers, a walk, 5
runs scored, and 8 RBIs. All with a torn ACL. Welcome back.
Unfortunately, Eric will be having surgery on his right knee on July 5th, so he will only be
able to play in several games, and will be unavailable for the playoffs, but the league
greatly appreciates his return. Often called the "League's Most Important Player", Eric will
continue to attend games and sit in the broadcast booth where he will heckle the players over
the public address system as only he can.
