Highest Batting Average
2001 Highest Batting Average: Quentin Jensen: .553Quentin Jensen got a hit in more than half of his at bats, easily making him the 2001 MLW batting champion. His .533 average is the highest single-season batting average in the history of MLW. Quentin finished .135 points ahead of the second leading hitter, Mike Breen.

Mike Breen finished just one point ahead of last year's batting champion, Shaun Breen. Mike hit over .400 for the first time in his career, while Shaun's average dropped from .442 the previous season.

Most Home Runs
2001 Most Home Runs: Mike Breen: 12 Mike Breen took pitchers deep 18 times to repeat as the MLW Home Run King. This time it was a much closer race, and his remarkable achievements earned him a spot in the August 6th issue of ESPN the Magazine.

Shaun Breen became the first player to break Mike's old single season home run record of 12, but Mike passed Shaun late in the season and kept the lead until the very end. Quentin Jensen had a home run surge at the end, too, but fell one home run short, yet he finished with the best home run to at bat ratio.

Kellogg's Special K Award -- Most Strikeouts Batting
2001 Most Strikeouts: Marc Ceccucci: 42Last year it was Matt Ceccucci, this year it was Marc Ceccucci who was a pitcher's best friend. In a very close race, Marc Ceccucci struck out 42 times, just once more than Eric Coons.

Shaun Breen, who struck out "only" 18 times in the previous season whiffed 31 times to tie him with last season's winner, Matt Ceccucci.

On a positive note, Marc Ceccucci's strikeout total was down from the 2000 season. He struck out 50 times that year and finished with the second most strikeouts.

Jared from Subway Award -- Most Walks
Most Walks 2001: Eric Coons: 29Eric Coons repeated as the MLW Walk Leader in 2001. His walk total dropped from 47 in 2000 to 29 in 2001, but it was enough to earn him the award.

Eric was so determined to win this award again that he had an official walk theme. Every time he received a free pass Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again" was played.

Eric has a good eye, but his main strategy when facing the hardest throwing pitchers was to stand there with the bat on his shoulder and hope for a ball.
