Bert Blyleven — Hall of Famer?
We’ll soon find out if the 13th time is the charm for Bert Blyleven. On January 6th, the 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame class will be announced.
For a guy who was retired well before steroids took over baseball, there’s still a lot of debate on whether Blyleven deserves to be elected to the Hall of Fame.
Blyleven is still known for having one of the best curveballs by any pitcher in history. We can only imagine what he could do with a wiffleball, even now, and he’s been retired since 1992.
After looking over his career stats, I’d have to say it’s a pretty easy decision. He deserves a plaque in Cooperstown.
Throw Neon Snow Balls
Wiffleball is fun just about any day, even in the rain. However, it can be tough to play wiffleball in the snow. After all, a regular white wiffleball is the same color as the snow on the ground. Heck, you might even lose a few wiffleballs and not find them again until the snow melts in the spring.
Well, we’re happy to report that Easton also makes a neon yellow wiffleball that can be used any time of the year, especially winter.
Players Born on the Same Day
Over the years, we’ve had many players pick up a wiffleball and try to fire it past opposing batters. Some other players are known for letting those pitchers try that, while standing in the batter’s box with a bat on their shoulder, hoping for a walk.
Today happens to be the day two of those key players were born. On December 29th, Matt Dahlin turns 25, and MLW’s original “Ironman” Eric Coons turns 31.
Swingin’ For Santa
While many of us are spending the day playing with our new Christmas presents, or out returning the ones that we didn’t want for cash, Chico, California is celebrating the return of wiffleball to “The Sac”.
Rather than call it something plain and expected like “Winterball”, Joe Creighton and his brother Terry, of Wiffleball2K, have organized “Swingin’ For Santa”, a Christmas-themed wiffleball event.
