Recycling Wiffleballs for Earth Day?
Are wiffleballs recyclable? What should we do with our broken balls? Should we just throw them away? Does anyone want them? We have a whole bag of cracked wiffleballs that’s overflowing, just taking up space. Can you help us out?
Joe Nathan Out With Torn Elbow Ligament
Looks like the Minnesota Twins are getting a new stadium and a new closer. Say it ain’t so, Joe!
This morning, the Twins announced that their closer, and wiffleball fan, Joe Nathan has suffered a significant tear to his ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow which could cause him to miss the entire 2010 season!
It’s sad to see, especially since Nathan, who turned 35 in the offseason, had surgery in October to remove bone spurs from the same elbow to prevent an injury like this from occurring.
The devastating news didn’t come as a total surprise, since it was announced yesterday that Nathan flew to Minnesota for an MRI, just a couple of days after leaving a spring training game against the Red Sox due to elbow soreness.
Nathan has already mentioned the dreaded three words that no fan ever wants to hear [...]
Wiffleball in the Snow
While pitchers and catchers report to warm spring training facilities, our home field of ‘The Sac’ is freezing cold and has seen its share of snow this winter.
Although our field is perfect for wiffleball most of the year, it’s not as good in the snow. After a snow storm, we often have a 10-foot-tall snow mountain where the pitcher’s mound is located. This creates quite an obstacle for hitters — like a “white monster” in the middle of the field, and it’s not exactly easy to pitch on.
So if you’re looking to play some winter wiffleball, you might need to get creative.
Pitchers and Catchers Report
It’s hard to believe that today marks the start of spring training for some pitchers and catchers. After all, 49 of the 50 states have experienced snow in the last three weeks, and in many areas, snow will continue to fall. But the start of spring training means warmer weather is just around the corner, and for wiffleball fans, it’s time to start thinking about your upcoming wiffleball season.
