2009 Gold Glove Awards

Torii Hunter Gold Glove

Major League Wiffleball would like to congratulate Torii Hunter and Joe Mauer for winning 2009 American League Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. Hunter won his ninth consecutive Gold Glove Award, while Mauer won his second in a row.

It would be interesting to see how these players would adapt to wiffleball since MLW players don’t wear gloves. And Torii Hunter would have to cut way back on all those diving catches because we play on asphalt, not grass.

Still, I have a feeling they’d do just fine, and I even named our version of the Gold Glove Award after Torii Hunter. Originally, the season’s best fielder would receive the ‘Gold Hands Award’. That just didn’t sound right, so now, our top fielder receives the Torii Hunter Best Fielder Award.

Joe Mauer has his own Major League Wiffleball award. The player with the highest batting average is named the Joe Mauer Batting Champion.

Note: While I don’t use Photoshop for any major photo modifications, I did remove the Minnesota Twins logo from Torii Hunter’s hat since most people identify him with the Los Angeles Angels now. But he did pose with a wiffleball for this site. That part of the photo is real.
